Snow Days and the Blog

Valentines Day
Valentines Day will be celebrated in our classroom on Friday, February 13th.  Below is a list of children in our classroom.   This list will be helpful as children are working on their valentine cards.  Please make sure that each child brings a card for every member of the class.  Please let the kids fill out their own valentines, as this provides a good chance for handwriting and spelling practice!  We will begin our Valentine's Party at 1:00 on that Friday afternoon.  THIS DAY WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED AS AN EARLY OUT, BUT WE WILL BE ATTENDING SCHOOL FOR THE FULL DAY.  If kids would wish to bring their cards early, I can store them until the day of the party.  Thanks!

Six Flags Read to Succeed Challenge!
Three weeks left....please keep reading for this goal!  Also, January Book It! forms due Monday, February 2nd!

Library Time is on Thursdays
Please help your student remember to bring their library books to school on Thursdays each week so that they can check out new books.  If you have lost books, please contact Mrs. Kendall in the office. Lost books are forgiven after a $5.00 fee per book is paid, and the student can check out books again after that...

Extra Pants/Warm Clothing for Recess
As long as the temperature is above the 20 degree mark, we plan to go outside for recess and get as much fresh air as possible!  Please remember to send your child to school each day with the appropriate coat, hat, gloves, etc...  Also, your child may want to keep an extra pair of pants in their bookbag or in a sack on their hallway hook.  Sometimes with melting snow on the parking lot, accidents happen, and we may need to change into something dry for the afternoon!  Thank you!

January 9th News and Notes

Big Changes in First and Second Grade!
On Monday of this week, we welcomed our 20th classmate, and 10th second grader to our school.  Welcome to Riah Wigfall!  Since our class has now grown to such a large size, the School Board made the decision to hire Mrs. Brooke Gheens to help out with the second grade in the mornings each day.  The library has been moved, and that room is now set up as a classroom for the second grade, who will participate in Daily 5 activities and Math with Mrs. Gheens.  First grade will be working upstairs in our original classroom with me each morning.  Welcome Mrs. Gheens!

This is very exciting since it will allow a teacher to meet with each Reading group every day.  Also, it will allow each class to have a Math lesson everyday.  As a result, you can now expect to see Math homework in the folder almost every evening.  Homework will not be given during lessons ending in 0 or 5, since those are assessment lessons that are done at school.  Thanks in advance to your attention to these schedule changes!   Let me know if you have any questions regarding these changes.
