March 6th News and Notes

Upcoming Important Events
Sunday, March 8th
Students open Lutheran Schools' Week by singing in church!  Please meet in the basement of St. John's Lutheran Church by 9:40 to sing at the 10:00 service.

Monday
Dress For the Day:  New St. John's gold t-shirt, another St. John's t-shirt, or blue and gold

Activities - Morning - Chapel  and visit with Holy Family students; Afternoon - step-up to the next grade

Tuesday
Dress For the Day:  Pajamas

Activity - Raptor Resource Assembly (including live birds and possibly snakes!)

Wednesday
Dress For the Day:  Favorite Sports Team Attire

Activity - Afternoon - Swimming and Exercising at the YMCA - Please send a swimsuit and towel for your child in a plastic Walmart-type bag.  After swimming, they can put their wet things back into this bag.

Thursday
Dress For the Day:  Beach Attire

Activity:  Evening - Book Fair Event - Meal starts at 5:30

Friday
Dress For the Day:  Nicer School Clothes

Activity:  Special Persons Day; Early Dismissal at 12:30

Book It! Forms for March
In the Friday folder, please look for a Book It! form for the month of March.  March is the last month for this Pizza Hut program this school year.  If your child would like to participate, please fill out and return by Tuesday, March 31st.

Due to a week full of activities to celebrate Lutheran Schools' Week, we will not be beginning a new Reading story or Spelling list next week.  We may have a Spelling Bee for each grade, so a brush-up on old spelling lists may be beneficial!  Spelling City is a great tool for this!

March 3rd Snow Day

Hello everyone!  How about this icy start to our day?

As far as our classroom schedule this week, we will say today's Memory Work on Wednesday.  We will move our Reading homework assignments to Wednesday and Friday nights.  Otherwise, everything else will remain the same at this point.

Also, McTeacher Night at McDonalds this evening is still going on as planned.  Please stop by anytime between 4 and 8 and let them know you are supporting St. John's Lutheran School with your purchase!

Book It! Forms Due Monday
If your child participated in Book It! this month, please return his or her completed form by Monday.

Eagle Cam Is Here!
We started checking in on the nest last week, and it was empty.  On Monday, we peeked, and the eagle was spiffing up her home.  And on Wednesday, we found a very snowy eagle who was sitting on two eggs! By Thursday, she had another egg, and we were lucky enough to see the mom and dad switch places in the nest!  This camera offers a live feed of the eagle family in Decorah, Iowa 24/7...see the link above marked "Eagle Cam"!

February 6th News and Notes

Six Flags Read to Succeed Is Almost Over!
In order to be eligible for the free Six Flags ticket, completed forms need to be returned to school by next Friday, February 13th!

Important Events for Next Week:
Wednesday - Afternoon trip to Quincy Community Theatre to see "Honk"

Friday - Please make sure that your student has their Valentine cards to school by Friday morning.  We will have an exchange Friday afternoon.  We will NOT be releasing early as was previously on the schedule.  Also, on Monday, we will be welcoming a new second grader...Sam Sherwood.  Please add him to the Valentine list published on the January 30th blog post!

Next week is unit test time!  This means we will not have regular Tuesday-Thursday night Reading homework.  Kids work hard on the unit tests all week during school time and do not begin a new story on these weeks.  Please take this opportunity to review all of the Unit Three vocabulary and sight words which can be found on the December 19th through January 30th News and Notes posts.

Snow Day....February 2nd

Hello everyone!  I hope the kids are having fun in the snow and that everyone is staying safe!

Currently, the only schedule change I am making is to move Tuesday's Memory Work to Wednesday morning.  Everything else will stay "as is" for the week.
