September 28th News and Notes
Scholastic Book Fair
Our Book Fair is underway! Please click on the link above to learn about remaining available shopping times and online shopping opportunities. We appreciate your support of our Book Fair!
Pizza Hut Book It! Reading Incentive Program Begins October 1st!
In the Friday folder, you will find a form for Book It! for the month of October. (What a great way to read your new Scholastic books and get credit for them!) First graders are asked to read 10 books during the month, and the goal for second graders is 15 books. Reading homework assignments do not count as Book It! books. Chapter books may be counted by writing each chapter as a single "book" on the form. If you would like to participate, please complete the project and return the form by the due date at the bottom. Students with completed forms by the due date will receive a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. I will try to scan a blank form for each grade and include in a later post on this blog as well. Please note that this project is not required, but a great incentive for students to practice their skills and read for fun at home!

"You Can Be A Hero, Too!" Challenge
First and Second Grade issued a challenge to all of the classrooms in our school during the September 11th Chapel we presented on Wednesday. Students who wish to participate can bring in one gently used clothing item (shirt, pants, shorts, skirt, shoes, etc) that does not fit them anymore. These items will be donated to a local organization that distributes clothing to those who need it. Students will place donated items in the grocery bag provided for their classroom. Each class will then return the grocery bags to chapel next Wednesday, September 19th. Just as there were many "everyday" heroes on September 11, 2001, we hope to be an everyday hero for someone in need in our community.

September 7th News and Notes
Pencils, Please.
The materials list that was sent out during the summer and displayed at stores for our classroom mentioned bringing pencils but it left out the quantity. Please make sure your child has at least 12 good pencils available to use at school. Please ask your child to see if they have enough. If they do not, please send more next week. Extras can be stored in the materials shoeboxes at the back of the classroom. Thanks!
Community News
As part of our social studies curriculum and your child's social studies participation score, we will be taking turns being the classroom's Community News reporter. Each child will get the chance to bring home a Hannibal Courier Post newspaper, pick an article, and write a brief summary of it to share with our class. Instructions can be found on the backside of the Community News Report Form. We pick one student per week for this job. Please be looking for your child's opportunity coming soon!
