October 18th News and Notes

The Wind in the Willows
The kids had a fantastic time on our trip to the Quincy Community Theatre for The Wind in the Willows  on Wednesday!  They were very well behaved on our first outing together out in "public"!  Be sure to ask your student about the show and their experience watching live theatre!

No School Next Thursday and Friday
Also, we will be dismissing early on Wednesday.  The teachers will be attending the Lutheran Education Association Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Parent/Teacher Conferences - Week of October 28th
Please look for a slip in the Friday Communication Folder which will let you know the date and time for your child's Parent/Teacher Conference.  I'm looking forward to discussing your child's progress so far this year with you!  Also in the Friday folder, please look for a Parent Questionnaire.  Please consider filling this out and bringing it to our conference during the week of the 28th.  I find that it helps direct our conversation and allows us to remember topics that we wanted to talk about together!

Religion
Memory Work for the Week of October 21st:

Tuesday (First and Second)
Do not fear, for I am with you ... I will strengthen you and help you.  Isaiah 41:10

Reading
Spelling
Since our week will be short, there will be no Reading or Spelling homework or tests for the Week of October 21st.  We will be focusing more instead on Math and Science for those days, so there may be a slight increase in the Math homework on Monday and Tuesday.  This will be temporary and things will return to near-normal for the Week of October 28th.  Please also look for a Science News sheet in the Friday folder.  The directions are on the sheet along with a list of suggested websites for the research.  These can be turned back in whenever they are finished, and your child will get to "show and tell" about the topic they studied as part of our science class.

McDonalds Superstars of the Week:
First Grade - Alana Lemon
Second Grade - Emily Lennox

Next Week's Book Nook Topic:
My Favorite Book
Students are encouraged to bring in ONE favorite book of their choice.  Please write their name somewhere inside the book to make sure it gets returned to the right person.

Thanks for all that you do!  Have a nice weekend and week ahead!
