Book It! Forms Due October 31st
If your child wishes to earn their free personal pan pizza for reading this month, please send completed forms to school by next Friday, October 31st.
Cough Drops
Tis the season for colds and coughs! For the younger students, Mrs. Lear has asked that any cough drops brought to school must be labeled with the child's name and dosage instructions, and must be given directly to the classroom teacher. This will insure that everyone is clear on what each student is taking and how many are appropriate to take in a day's time. Thank you.
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing at QCT

Quincy Community Theatre Trip - Wednesday, October 22nd
We are SUPER excited about our trip to Quincy next Wednesday morning! If you have a first grade student, please make arrangements to have a car seat available for the trip to Quincy. (We will be taking the two school vans and a few parents will also be driving). Car seats can be dropped off in the gym when you come in on Wednesday. Please remind all students of the importance of good behavior as we take St. John's out into the public and to a live theatre performance - Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing. Also, kids may want to consider wearing nicer clothes than those for an average school day. Thanks for your attention to these matters!
Please prepare for recess!
The weather people are saying that cooler weather is on the way! And often this time of year, temperatures can fluctuate up and down! Please remember to dress your child appropriately each day for outside recess. We will be going outside on days that we can, and some of those may start getting a little chilly.
Saxon Math Homework
Thank you for helping your children with these homework assignments each week! Please make sure that your child does not use PEN or MARKER to complete these assignments. Besides the thinness of the paper itself, pen and marker can not be erased when a mistake is made. Please continue to encourage your child to work neatly at all times.
Important Events To Remember For Next Week:
Saturday/Sunday - Cheese Soup Booth - Folklife Festival
Tuesday - Picture Retake Day - Please send your child dressed appropriately if you wish for them to retake their fall picture. Also, Band Day has been rescheduled for this afternoon. Please remember the change in pick-up procedure. You will need to exit the parking lot with a right turn toward Eugene Field...
Wednesday - K-8 Field Trip to Quincy Community Theatre

Please refer to the links at the side of the blog for each individual parent letter post to recall all vocabulary and sight words so far. During our review (unit test) week in Reading, we will not have the regular Tuesday/Thursday night Reading homework. October 10th News and Notes
American Sign Language Link Above
The second graders really enjoyed learning a little sign language with their Reading story Meet Rosina. Above please find a link to a website that will teach basic words in sign. Also be sure to check out a video on You Tube entitled "ABC Song/ASL alphabet - American Version" by My Smart Hands. Earlier this year, I sent a paper copy of the ASL alphabet in the communication folder. What a great new way to practice spelling words each week- by spelling them in sign language!
Handbook Sign Off Forms
Please look in Friday's Communication Folder for a sign-off form for this year's handbook. If you have already signed off, you will not find a form in your child's folder. Please complete and return to school on Monday. If you did not receive a copy of the handbook, please let me know.
Band Day - Tuesday, October 14th
Please be aware that pick-up procedure may be slightly different on Tuesday afternoon due to marching bands lining up in our neighborhood for Band Day. When leaving the parking lot, you will be asked to turn right and to drive past Eugene Field to exit. Thanks for your attention to this change, and you may want to park and watch the bands - it is a sight to see!
