December 5th News and Notes

Six Flags Read To Succeed
In the Friday folder, please look for the form for the Six Flags Read To Succeed program.  Students completing 360 minutes of recreational reading between now and February 13th will receive a free ticket to Six Flags.  Books read for the Book It! program can also count for this, but Reading homework assignments cannot.  (BOOK IT FORMS FOR DECEMBER CAME HOME IN FOLDERS EARLIER THIS WEEK!)  Please read the information on the form for further details.  This is not required, but what a fun way to start the new year by making a goal to read more often!

Snow Days and the BlogI
If we should happen to have a snow day within the next few months, please be sure to check this blog for updates on what might be due the day we come back, etc.  Unless the power is out, I should be able to update you via this blog from my home way over in Illinois!  Please let the office know if you did not receive a mass information test call this past week.  This was a test to make sure that all phone numbers can be reached in case of a special announcement or snow day cancellation.

Christmas Time, Christmas Talent!
When:  Thursday, December 18th, 7:00 p.m.
Where:  St. John's Lutheran School Gym
Who:  All students in grades K-8 have a part in the program, as well as others with individual talent acts.
Details:  Kids will be meeting their class in the gym at 6:30.  Please dress children appropriately as they will all be involved in some sort of choir or performance.

Drivers Needed
We will be presenting some of the talent from the Christmas Time, Christmas Talent! program to the residents of Luther Manor on Friday morning, December 19th.  Please let me know if you might be able to help transport students to that event.

Toys for Tots in Lieu of Classroom Exchange
Instead of an exchange of gifts between students, we are encouraging the kids to continue to consider giving to those in need by bringing a new or gently used toy to be presented to the Toys for Tots Program.  The kids may bring in an unwrapped gift anytime next week.  Gifts will be picked up on Friday afternoon, December 12th.  Thank you for considering this donation!

Upcoming Events - Week of December 8th:
Monday  - BOOK ORDERS DUE in order to insure delivery before Christmas Break!  Let me know if you wish to keep your order a secret, and I can send it to you in a non-obvious package!  Order forms came home in the Wednesday communication folder, or you can use the link above to order online.

Religion
Memory Work for the Week of December 8th - additional lyrics for "Children Go Where I Send Thee":

Tuesday (First and Second)
I will send thee four by four.
Four walls in the stable,
Three gifts from the wise men.  Two parents Mary and Joseph.
One for the little bitty baby...

Thursday (First and Second)
I will send thee five by five.
Five points in the Christmas star.
Four walls in the stable.
Three gifts from the wise men.  Two parents Mary and Joseph.
One for the little bitty baby...

Friday (First and Second)
I will send thee six by six.
Six flocks of sheep with shepherds.
Five points in the Christmas star.
Four walls in the stable.
Three gifts from the wise men.  Two parents Mary and Joseph.
One for the little bitty baby...
