Thursday - First and Second Grade Field Trip to The Fox Theatre/The Buterfly House
The kids are so ready for their Field Trip to The Fox Theatre and The Butterfly House on Thursday! A few things to remember for that day:

* We will be meeting that morning by the Jesus picture at the gym and our goal is to leave the building at 7:30am. Please be sure to have your child there on time so that we can keep on schedule.

*Please have your child wear the yellow St. John's eagle logo t-shirt that we sold this school year.  This will be a nice, bright color to keep us all identifiable!  If your child does not have this shirt, please have them wear another yellow shirt or another bright color.

* Please send your child with a cold lunch that we will eat at Faust Park before visiting The Butterfly House. If your child ordered a school lunch, we will pick them up from the kitchen that morning.  Chaperones  - please bring coolers so that lunches can be stored in a cold place until lunch time.

* First grade students need to bring along their car seat.

* Please remind your student to use respectfulness and good manners while out in the public representing St. John's Lutheran School.

* Many children will be riding with their own parents. Chaperones of children who are not will be in contact with the parents of those students riding with them regarding exact return time to St. John's.

*Please be sure to send along a water bottle in addition to your child's cold lunch and drink on Tuesday's field trip.  Hopefully God will bless us with a nice warm day and kids will get thirsty after playing in the park!

* Children whose parents are not travelling with us may wish to bring along a small amount of spending money, as The Butterfly House has a gift shop. Otherwise, all other admission fees for the day have been covered through the school and our Field Trip Fund.

Please call or email with any questions. Thanks!

January 9th News and Notes

Big Changes in First and Second Grade!
On Monday of this week, we welcomed our 20th classmate, and 10th second grader to our school.  Welcome to Riah Wigfall!  Since our class has now grown to such a large size, the School Board made the decision to hire Mrs. Brooke Gheens to help out with the second grade in the mornings each day.  The library has been moved, and that room is now set up as a classroom for the second grade, who will participate in Daily 5 activities and Math with Mrs. Gheens.  First grade will be working upstairs in our original classroom with me each morning.  Welcome Mrs. Gheens!

This is very exciting since it will allow a teacher to meet with each Reading group every day.  Also, it will allow each class to have a Math lesson everyday.  As a result, you can now expect to see Math homework in the folder almost every evening.  Homework will not be given during lessons ending in 0 or 5, since those are assessment lessons that are done at school.  Thanks in advance to your attention to these schedule changes!   Let me know if you have any questions regarding these changes.
